For any fellow medieval fanatics out there this is a must!

Hey JD, sounds good, which book is your favourite? have you read Ken Follet’s Pillars of the Earth and if so does it compare at all?

I think I enjoyed crusade the most. No I haven’t, thanks I’ll check that out.

I realise I’m probably being controversial here, but I thought The Pillars of the Earth was rather boring (sorry!). It’s definitely a good story, but I felt the book was too long at times and the characters were a bit superficial (goodies versus baddies).

I must agree with you on that one, the story can sometimes feel a bit long (at 1076 pages, it’s a proper summer read! :)) but Ken Follet depicts life in the medieval dark ages in such a raw and tangible way that you could almost believe you’re there. And I visited Guildford cathedral whilst I was reading it so it gave me some great insights into the architecture of cathedrals!
