[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]The history of Lawn Bowling has been traced back as far as Egyptian times when ancient objects were discovered in the grave of a child that resembled an earlier form of the game. It was thought that they would play a game that was similar to what we know as skittles today, with stones that were round in shape. . The game of lawn bowls started ino England in 1299AD where the first recorded game was played in Southampton Bowls turned out a great career move for Sir Francis Drake, and his opponent Sir Walter Raleigh did not fare badly either His . Anne Boleyn was a bowler, as were many noblewomen, including the first Princess Elizabeth and Queen Victoria. The late Queen Mary, and King Edward V enjoyed the game of bowls. Edward VIII, was president of the Royal Household Bowling club of Windsor Castle where the Bowling Green is permanent fixture .His brother, the late George VI, was an enthusiastic bowler and patron of the English Bowling Association. William Shakespear also played this intriguing sport. The legendary W G Grace, England’s finest cricketer, founded and became the first president of the English Bowling Association after finally packing his cricket bag…… and Walt Disney founded a bowls club in Los Angeles which is still thriving to this day

Have you given up playing football, cricket, rugby, tennis or squash and looking for some new form of competitive pastime? Or are you looking for a sociable and friendly game which you could play with your partner, or friends? Whatever the answer, then how about giving Lawn Bowls a try?A lot of people automaticaly think Bowls is not a game for them but are very suprised when they actually play the game.
